Willem van Mieris was born in Leiden on 3 June Like his older brother, Jan van Mieris —90 , Willem too became a painter. If this was indeed the case, Willem was probably in charge, given that he was the first of the two to join the Guild of Saint Luke in Leiden, on 21 June ; Jan followed suit three years later.
